Sant Elm
Sant Elm is a quiet and cosy old fishing village, made up of summer and residential houses, where you can find a wide variety of restaurants, bars and a small shopping area. Midday and evening are excellent times to discover the delights of its cuisine in the different restaurants, enjoying magnificent views of the sea and the small island of Dragonera.
Its fine sandy beaches, Sa Gran and Sa Petita; or the small pebble beaches, such as Cala es Conills and Cala en Basset, are perfect for spending a quiet day enjoying the waters and the Majorcan sun.
This area was known as Sa Palomera, where the troops of King Jaume I anchored before disembarking in Santa Ponça in 1229. Until the beginning of the 20th century, Sant Elm made its living from fishing and preserving fish through a salting method.
This area has a very important and valuable historical heritage. On one hand, a reminder of the passage of King Jaume II is the old sailors’ hospital with a chapel, known as the tower of Sant Elm. On the other hand, La Trapa, where a community of monks built a monastery around 1810. Lastly, the defensive towers of Cala en Basset and Llebeig on the island of Dragonera, as vestiges of the defensive fortifications to prevent pirate and corsair attacks.
Natural areas, walking routes, historical heritage, beautiful beaches and water sports are some of the attractions that Sant Elm offers to its visitors. Ideal for family tourism and for enjoying nature, Sant Elm is privileged to have two places of exceptional interest: the Dragonera Island Natural Park and La Trapa Nature Reserve
